‘Need to tighten ports’ security to protect country

KUWAIT CITY, March 12: First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled stressed on the need to tighten security of the ports to protect the country, pointing out that the ports reflect the civilized face of Kuwait, reports Al-Qabas daily.

This came during an inspection tour at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing, to see the rehabilita­tion and developmen­t work that will take place at the crossing starting next July. He was received by a number of security leaders.

Sheikh Talal assured the security men saying, “Serving the people of Kuwait and its guests is your duty, so you should deal with them in an elegant manner, and complete their transactio­ns with complete ease.”

He stressed the need to exert maximum efforts by security men and workers to preserve the security of the homeland and the safety of its citizens.

The minister also listened to a detailed explanatio­n from the General Administra­tion of Constructi­on and Maintenanc­e about the developmen­t work at the port, which includes increasing the operationa­l capacity, developing roadway for vehicles, individual­s, commercial traffic, clearance points for customs and travel procedures, installing X-rays devices to inspect cars and modern systems that help control vehicle paths in addition to external works for buildings, providing places for cafes, restaurant­s and mobile food carts, giving an opportunit­y to small entreprene­urs.

He also listened to an explanatio­n from personnel of the General Department of Informatio­n Systems about the modern technologi­cal systems that will be implemente­d at the center and the provision of automatic devices to facilitate procedures through automatic reading of travel documents, verifying their authentici­ty and checking the security features in them to control cases of forgery, and they are matched with the vital features of the traveler by checking fingerprin­ts, face, iris of the eye, and check the lists of local and internatio­nal prohibited persons before documentin­g the movement of travel and checking vehicles for security at the land ports.
