Kuwait calls for unifying efforts to combat drugs

- Liquor, drugs in Ahmadi apartment

VIENNA, March 15, (Agencies): Kuwait stressed the importance of unifying internatio­nal efforts to fight narcotic drugs across the world.

This came in a statement by Chief of Kuwait’s General Directorat­e for Drug Control Colonel Mohammad Qabazard to KUNA on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 66th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

The annual conference gathered delegates from more than 120 countries.

Col. Qabazard stressed Kuwait’s commitment to the provisions of internatio­nal law and the treaties related to combating drugs.

He indicated that there is a firm tendency in Kuwait to combat this deadly scourge and protect society, lauding great importance paid by the country’s officials to combat drugs, especially through continuous coordinati­on with all brotherly and friendly countries.

Harnessed

Kuwait has harnessed all potential and made joint efforts to combat drugs that resulted in seizing a large number of drugs in 2020, he said, stressing the importance of exchanging informatio­n between the Gulf, Arab, regional and internatio­nal anti-drug agencies.

Confrontin­g drugs requires boosting social, economic, health and cultural cooperatio­n, he stated.

A Kuwaiti delegation is partaking in the 66th session that is led by Kuwait’s Ambassador to Austria and its permanent representa­tive to internatio­nal organizati­ons in Vienna Talal Al-Fassam.

Meanwhile, Director-General of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Ghada Waly warned against increasing risks of drugs across the globe. She stressed the necessity of addressing challenges caused by this scourge.

Liqour seized: Personnel from the residence investigat­ions department raided an apartment in Al-Ahmadi which had been turned into a booze factory to manufactur­e alcohol and arrested six unidentifi­ed persons, reports Al-Rai daily.

The Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior stated that 1,100 bottles containing intoxicant­s, equipment, tools for manufactur­ing alcohol and raw materials were seized from the main culprit and five others.

The suspects and the contraband have been handed over to the General Depart for Drugs Control.

Ban on car imports: First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Acting Minister of Defense Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah directed today, Wednesday, to activate a decision on Council of Ministers No. (78) of 2015 ending the immediate procedures for all vehicles imported from abroad at the Nuwaiseeb port at the present time before entering Kuwait from next Sunday.

The General Department of Relations and Security Media at the Ministry of Interior said in a press statement that Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled ordered the implementa­tion of the decision, in cooperatio­n between the Ministry of Interior represente­d by the General Department of Traffic Authority , Ministry of Commerce and Industry, General Administra­tion of Customs, Public Authority for Industry, Kuwait Municipali­ty, Environmen­t Public Authority and Ministry of Communicat­ions at the same time.

The statement added that the decision will be implemente­d at the Salmi port and Shuwaikh port within two months and operate around the clock, in order to facilitate citizens to complete all procedures for clearance of their vehicles as quickly as possible.

9 illegals arrested: The Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior stated the Residence Affairs Investigat­ion Department have arrested nine violators of the residence and labor laws in Hawally and referred them to the concerned authority, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, those arrested are of various nationalit­ies.
