MP summoned for offending judiciary

- By Saeed Mahmoud Saleh

KUWAIT CITY, March 23: The Cybercrimes Department has summoned MP Bader Al- Dahoum to interrogate him for offending the judiciary.

This step was taken after Al-Dahoum talked about the recent decision of the Constitutional Court to nullify the decrees on dissolving the 2020 National Assembly and the 2022 parliamentary elections. He said some judges, who occupy sensitive positions, are corrupt.

A number of lawmakers expressed support for

Al-Dahoum. MP Thamer Al-Suwait asserted that summoning Al-Dahoum for interrogation due to his political views is a dangerous indicator as it implies curtailing one’s freedom of speech.

MP Muhammad Al-Mutair called on His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Khalid Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to bear their responsibilities. He stressed that summoning AlDahoum for his political views means “we still live in the past era.”

MP Khalid Al-Otaibi said Al-Dahoum only discussed public issues — duties of the legislative, executive and judicial authorities. He asserted that it is unacceptable to intimidate an individual for expressing his views on public issues. He added such intimidation will not stop the lawmakers from revealing the truth.

Meanwhile, MP Farz Al-Daihani disclosed that he will submit a proposal to form a fact-finding committee to investigate the violations in the parliamentary elections held on Sept 29, 2022. He affirmed this proposal is in line with the decision of the Constitutional Court on the election loopholes and violations.
