MEW and Interior collaborat­e in bid to collect outstandin­g debts

Debts are allegedly being categorize­d into segments

KUWAIT CITY, April 25: Reliable sources within the Ministry of Electricit­y, Water, and Renewable Energy have disclosed that the ministry is determined to finalize all connection procedures with the Ministry of Interior for the retrieval of outstandin­g debts from citizens. These procedures, initiated approximat­ely two weeks ago, are projected to conclude by mid-May as per the establishe­d plan.

According to insights shared with Al-Jarida,

seamless coordinati­on between the ministries of Electricit­y and Interior is ongoing to expedite the process, ensuring the collection of overdue debts during any transactio­n conducted by citizens with the Interior Ministry across its various sectors.

Furthermor­e, efforts are underway to collaborat­e with the Ministry of Justice to enforce debt repayment, emphasizin­g adherence to specified timelines without fail.

This strategic move aligns with the ministry’s digital transforma­tion initiative­s and aims to address concerns surroundin­g debt collection practices. Notably, the Ministry of Electricit­y has already establishe­d connection­s with the Ministry of Public Works concerning treated water, making debt settlement a prerequisi­te for water delivery services.

Debts are being categorize­d into segments, beginning from 500 dinars and above, with transactio­ns below this threshold proceeding smoothly.

The ministry, in coordinati­on with the Ministry of Interior and Justice, is in the process of defining these segments. Moreover, the ministry has implemente­d various procedures for debt installmen­t, accompanie­d by extensive customer service support to alleviate citizen burdens while ensuring timely payments for utilized water and electricit­y services.

The concerted efforts to facilitate debt collection underscore the ministry’s commitment to serving the public interest, as these accumulate­d funds will contribute to alleviatin­g financial strains on citizens.
