MEW and Interior collaborate in bid to collect outstanding debts
Debts are allegedly being categorized into segments
KUWAIT CITY, April 25: Reliable sources within the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy have disclosed that the ministry is determined to finalize all connection procedures with the Ministry of Interior for the retrieval of outstanding debts from citizens. These procedures, initiated approximately two weeks ago, are projected to conclude by mid-May as per the established plan.
According to insights shared with Al-Jarida,
seamless coordination between the ministries of Electricity and Interior is ongoing to expedite the process, ensuring the collection of overdue debts during any transaction conducted by citizens with the Interior Ministry across its various sectors.
Furthermore, efforts are underway to collaborate with the Ministry of Justice to enforce debt repayment, emphasizing adherence to specified timelines without fail.
This strategic move aligns with the ministry’s digital transformation initiatives and aims to address concerns surrounding debt collection practices. Notably, the Ministry of Electricity has already established connections with the Ministry of Public Works concerning treated water, making debt settlement a prerequisite for water delivery services.
Debts are being categorized into segments, beginning from 500 dinars and above, with transactions below this threshold proceeding smoothly.
The ministry, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and Justice, is in the process of defining these segments. Moreover, the ministry has implemented various procedures for debt installment, accompanied by extensive customer service support to alleviate citizen burdens while ensuring timely payments for utilized water and electricity services.
The concerted efforts to facilitate debt collection underscore the ministry’s commitment to serving the public interest, as these accumulated funds will contribute to alleviating financial strains on citizens. Appreciation is extended to all involved parties for their dedication to achieving these objectives through streamlined procedures.
