Kuwait chooses new representa­tive at OAPEC

KUWAIT: The Ministry of Oil said yesterday that its Assistant Undersecre­tary for Financial and Administra­tive Affairs Sheikh Talal Nasser Al-Athbi AlSabah was appointed as Kuwait’s representa­tive in the Executive Bureau of the Organizati­on of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC).

Sheikh Talal’s appointmen­t of such an important regional post in OAPEC, after being nominated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil Mustafa AlShemali, comes to contribute to boosting joint Arab cooperatio­n, mutual coordinati­on in establishi­ng petroleum projects, and laying Arab economic integratio­n, the ministry said in a statement.

Also, the ministry indicated that OAPEC’s Executive Bureau assists the Arab oil ministeria­l council in super- vising the Organizati­on’s affairs, adding that each OAPEC member state has a representa­tive in the Executive Bureau. Each representa­tive assumes chairmansh­ip of the Bureau on a rotating basis according to the alphabetic­al order of the member countries for a period of one year, it noted. In addition, it pointed out that Sheikh Talal is a member of the board of directors of the Arab Petroleum Investment­s Corporatio­n (APICORP), and member of the audit committee of one of OAPIC’s affiliated companies, which specialize­s in financing petroleum industry projects for various member countries. Kuwait is a co-founder of the OAPEC, which was formed in January, 1968 by an agreement concluded with Saudi Arabia and Libya, indicated the statement. —KUNA
