Kuwait chooses new representative at OAPEC
KUWAIT: The Ministry of Oil said yesterday that its Assistant Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs Sheikh Talal Nasser Al-Athbi AlSabah was appointed as Kuwait’s representative in the Executive Bureau of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC).
Sheikh Talal’s appointment of such an important regional post in OAPEC, after being nominated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil Mustafa AlShemali, comes to contribute to boosting joint Arab cooperation, mutual coordination in establishing petroleum projects, and laying Arab economic integration, the ministry said in a statement.
Also, the ministry indicated that OAPEC’s Executive Bureau assists the Arab oil ministerial council in super- vising the Organization’s affairs, adding that each OAPEC member state has a representative in the Executive Bureau. Each representative assumes chairmanship of the Bureau on a rotating basis according to the alphabetical order of the member countries for a period of one year, it noted. In addition, it pointed out that Sheikh Talal is a member of the board of directors of the Arab Petroleum Investments Corporation (APICORP), and member of the audit committee of one of OAPIC’s affiliated companies, which specializes in financing petroleum industry projects for various member countries. Kuwait is a co-founder of the OAPEC, which was formed in January, 1968 by an agreement concluded with Saudi Arabia and Libya, indicated the statement. —KUNA
