Rangers beat slumping Flyers

PHILADELPH­IA: Martin St. Louis reached 1,000 career NHL points with a goal and an assist, Cam Talbot made 26 saves and the New York Rangers beat the slumping Philadelph­ia Flyers 3-0 Friday.

Rick Nash and Dan Boyle also scored for the Rangers (10-8-4), who shut out the Flyers for the second time in nine days. Philadelph­ia (8-11-3) dropped to 1-6-1 in its last eight games while getting blanked for the third time in its last six. Boos rained down on the Flyers during the third period.

The Flyers held a players’ only meeting after Wednesday’s 5-2 loss at Detroit but responded with a similar result. The Rangers had skated to a 2-0 win over the Flyers on Nov. 19. The teams will play in New York on Saturday.

RED WINGS 5, DEVILS 4 Gustav Nyquist scored the only goal in the shootout, and Detroit rallied to beat New Jersey. The Red Wings had trailed 4-1 before surging to victory. Riley Sheahan, Xavier Ouellet, Justin Abdelkader and Drew Miller scored for the Red Wings in regulation. Backup goalie Petr Mrazek, in his second start of the season, made 21 saves for Detroit through overtime.

Mike Cammalleri scored two power-play goals for New Jersey. Jaromir Jagr got his 709th goal, moving into sole possession of sixth place on the NHL career list - one ahead of Mike Gartner. Peter Harrold also scored for the Devils.

Nyquist beat Cory Schneider in the third round of the shootout, and Mrazek sealed the win with a pad stop on Michael Ryder.

BLACKHAWKS 4, DUCKS 1

Patrick Kane scored two goals, and Andrew Shaw and Brad Richards each had a goal and an assist, leading Chicago over Anaheim.

Corey Crawford made 23 saves, helping the Blackhawks win for the fifth time in six games. Defenseman Hampus Lindholm scored for the two-time defending Pacific Division champions, and Frederik Andersen stopped 34 shots in his first career appearance against Chicago.

Crawford making his 13th consecutiv­e start, didn’t have to face a shot during the first 7 1-2 minutes. Chicago was 0 for 5 on the power play, ending its streak of six straight games with a power-play goal. The Ducks have yielded five goals in 47 short-handed situations over their last 15 games.

CAPITALS 5, ISLANDERS 2

Aex Ovechkin scored the go-ahead goal, Matt Niskanen had three assists and Washington slowed down the streaking New York Islanders.

Ovechkin gave Washington a 3-2 lead midway through the second period. He has four goals in four games, Marcus Johansson and Evgeny Kuznetsov each had a goal and an assist, and Andre Burakovsky and Joel Ward also scored for the Capitals. Braden Holtby stopped 26 shots. He has a 1.86 goals-against average over his last seven games. After a 3-2 overtime loss on Long Island on Wednesday night, the Capitals earned a split of the home-and-home set. John Tavares and Anders Lee scored for New York, and Chad Johnson made 22 saves. The Islanders had won five straight and 10 of 11.

HURRICANES 4, PENGUINS 2

Nathan Gerbe’s power-play goal broke a third period tie, and Carolina earned a rare road win by beating Pittsburgh. Gerbe scored his third goal of the season at 3:10, and Jiri Tlusty pushed the lead to two in the closing seconds with a power-play tally into an empty net for his 10th goal. Tlusty also scored in the first period and added an assist on Patrick Dwyer’s second of the season in the second for a three-point game for the Hurricanes, who had lost six of seven. The Hurricanes, who own the NHL’s worst road record (3-9-2), finished their five-game trip with their second win of it. They had lost five of previous six and eight of the 10 against Pittsburgh.

Cam Ward, making his fifth straight start, made 20 saves for the win. Patric Hornqvist scored his 11th, and Kris Letang had his fourth for the Penguins, who fell short of tying a team record for wins in November. Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby had two assists.

BRUINS 2, JETS 1

Dougie Hamilton scored 3:39 into overtime, and Boston rallied to beat Winnipeg. Carl Soderberg assisted on both goals for Boston, which held off the Jets during a four-minute power play late in the third period and early in overtime. Loui Eriksson also earned an assist on the game-winner. Boston’s Milan Lucic scored the tying goal early in the third period, and Tuukka Rask made 35 saves. He didn’t allow anything to get past him after Dustin Byfuglien’s goal gave the Jets a 1-0 lead with 3:36 left in the first period. Winnipeg’s Michael Hutchinson stopped 36 shots.
