Jahra Road Development Project sees progress

-

KUWAIT: The Ministry of Public Works announces that great progress has been achieved on the Jahra Road Development Project since the beginning of 2015, and the project is now reaching an advanced stage. The main line of the second phase, which commences at the UN roundabout and ends at the hospitals complex, is nearing completion.

Earlier this year, a key detour was announced in the Shuwaikh area, between the Ghazali road and the Airport road, which diverts traffic through the city’s back roads, easing the progress of construction in the area.

Yasser Boudastour, Project Engineer, Jahra Road Development Project, commented: “We are pleased with the progress being made on the Jahra Road Development Project. Earlier this year, we have opened two ramps in phase two of the project - the ramps connect the fourth ring road and the Granada area in both directions. Also, the phase two mainline nearing completion and will be opened later this year. Finishing works in the final stage include the addition of concrete barriers, and a paint coating which is resistant to weather conditions.”

“The construction works is ongoing in full swing: 3908 piles have been installed, 362 columns, and 296 head of columns have been constructed. We have manufactured 6,000 bridge segments in the precast yard, as well as installing 4604 bridge segments. We are confident that our progress on the project will ease traffic in the country in the near future,” added Boudastour.

This mega project is one of the largest elevated road projects in the world. It involves the construction of 17.7 km of segmental viaducts (7.3 km of mainline Jahra Road, 2.4 km of link roads and 8.0 km of ramps), 0.62 km of depressed road, 2 roundabout bridges and 10 pedestrian bridges. The at-grade road works include 3.4 km of mainline Jahra Road, 1.0 km of link roads and 15.1 km of service roads. The Jahra Road project also includes major utility works, such as 3.5 km of storm water box culverts, 33 km of water lines relocation, 8.0 km of sanitary sewer relocation, 51 km of electric cables relocation, and 12 km of communication ducts.
