New Hijra year amid backlog of problems

- By Nermin Al-Houti

We are supposed to congratulate each other on the occasion of the new Hijra year, but for what should we congratulate each other in 1437 AH? The issue is not only related to last year - rather the Muslim nation lived and is reliving previous years and past eras whose months and days contained many crises, leaving many issues with their effects yet to be solved.

Years of poverty in all forms - of be it in science, health, food and other basics of building the human being - have reached a point when the Muslim nation is described as backward people, because of their lack of knowing the meaning of “human being”. Here comes our question - why do we congratulate and wish the Muslim nation the best every year? The question is: What good and what congratulations carry the feeling of bounty, development, advancement and renaissance, while we are a nation seen by others as the Third World of low development and thinking?

Each year comes a new Hijra year that is limited to congratulations and official holidays, while the people of our nation lived and are still living with the siege of poverty and ignorance. Each year, all types of messages are sent to congratulate people on the occasion of the New Year, and there are still countries in our Muslim nation that are waiting for relief and dream of freedom from their enemies and occupiers. Today, while we congratulate on the occasion of our new Hijra year, there are still many cities in our Muslim nation that suffer poverty in water, medicine and food. During the dawn hours of the new Hijra year, we congratulate each other, while some in our nation are killing others, and despite all this we say: We wish the Muslim nation the best each year!

That “good” with which the majority kids itself, and thinks that hope comes by congratulations on the new Hijra year. The issue is not words - rather the tumults that hit the Muslim nation, its civilization and history. The issue is not “born” today - rather it has been accumulated from various eras, for which solutions were not found by some people, who only limited things to hopes and wishes without an actual and deep-rooted change until we became people whose motto is wishing the Muslim nation all the best each year. Last Word: Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves.”
