‘Manpower’ staff hurt in ceiling collapse

‘Heavy rain’ expected Wednesday

KUWAIT: Well-informed sources at the Manpower Public Authority said that the ceiling of the archive’s room at the labor inspection department collapsed on some porters looking up some files, injuring many of them. The sources added that many of the authority’s buildings are worn out and stop functioning whenever it rains due to bad wiring and being infested with rats.

Meanwhile, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Development and Planning Hind Al-Subaih said that ever since she came to office, she has a vision to automate all ministry facilities, especially the manpower authority, which had been financially and administratively separated from the ministry. Speaking at a special ceremony held to honor 25 manpower authority employees who had taken part in workshop on developing vocational performance jointly held with EQUATE, Subaih approved the workshop, which aims at cutting red tape.

Subaih added that the law should equally apply to all without any exceptions and urged the workshop trainees to act accordingly and work on improving the services provided to the public. She also criticized a number of employees who had left their offices to have breakfast at a labor department while people waited to be served. “How can a public servant do this and how can you enjoy breakfast knowing that you are upsetting people and wasting their time?” she asked.

EQUATE CEO Mohammed Hussein stressed that achieving goals was directly linked to improving employees’ efficiency through constant development of human resources, which is the cornerstone of sustainable development. Hussein added that efficiency development is achievable through some criterions and methodology using Six Sigma and LEAN, which develop performance and cut down cost, time and effort.

Kuwait Meteorology Center predicted heavy rain that might be accompanied by thunderstorms on Wednesday, after Kuwait saw rainy weather last Wednesday and Thursday.

Kuwait Medical Association (KMA) Secretary General Dr Mohammed AlQenae said three Ministry of Health committees formed to study insurance against medical errors, vocational description and amending medicine practice law had concluded their work and submitted recommendations to Minister Ali Al-Obaidi. Qenae added that the medicine law amendments include increasing doctors’ penalties to reach three years in prison and KD 5,000 in fines.
