Minister reiterates respect of all faiths within framework of law

KUWAIT: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Friday reiterated the State’s respect of all religions, and keenness on providing a climate of religious tolerance and freedom within the framework of law and public morals.

“Kuwait is the country of coexistenc­e and toleration,” Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid stressed during a tour of churches and other Christian places of worship to inspect security and traffic measures for New Year celebratio­ns.

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid underscore­d eagerness on the protection, security and safety of all people in Kuwait who respect laws, regulation­s and customs and traditions “that bind citizens and expats in single fiber,” the ministry’s Security Informatio­n Department said in a statement. It added that the minister urged provision of security and peacefulne­ss for the Christian sects in the country.

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid was briefed by the security field and traffic commanders on the preventive plans for control, quick response and abilities to move and other measures adopted during such occasions.

He was also informed of commitment by leaders of churches and Christian sects to the preventive instructio­ns and guidelines and precaution­ary measures previously announced and reiterated by the ministry and security bodies.

Meanwhile, leaders of churches and Christian sects as well as many expats have highly appreciate­d the State of Kuwait and the sincere efforts “around the clock” by the Interior Minister and security bodies during all occasions, which allows followers of all faiths to practice their rituals in an atmosphere of freedom and tolerance. — KUNA
