Food security marks core pillar for nation: Minister

KUWAIT: Food security constitute­s a main pillar for Kuwait, Minister of Public Works Ali AlOmair said yesterday, commending the Kuwait Farmers Union for meeting the food needs of citizens. Meeting the union’s head and members, together with a group of farmers, Omair, who doubles as Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs, said he is keen on wiping out all obstacles and problems the farmers are facing. He promised that such problems, primarily continuing power outage, serious shortage of water and lack of manpower, would be carefully considered in order to find swift solutions. The minister added that more meetings would be held with farmers in the near future with a view to following up on the resolution of obstacles they are facing. Meanwhile, DirectorGe­neral of the Public Authority of Agricultur­al Affairs and Fish Resources Faisal Al-Hasawi stressed the authority’s interest in removing all problems bugging farmers and fishermen in order to develop and boost food security in the country. He added that yesterday’s meeting with the minister had reflected continuing cooperatio­n and communicat­ion between government­al officials and farmers. — KUNA
