Youth action important in facing extremism: Minister
CAIRO: Kuwait’s Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah stressed the importance of enhancing youth action to protect youngsters from extremist ideologies.
Sheikh Salman made his remarks in a statement Monday following the conclusion of the 39th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth Affairs in the Egyptian capital. He thanked all participants at the session for expressing their keen interest in youth issues, particularly Arab League for launching a youth campaign on Sunday, entitled “No for violence, No for terrorism, No for extremism.”
On meeting with Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi, Sheikh Salman commended the ‘distinctive’ and ‘fruitful’ meeting, adding that it reflected Sisi’s faith in the importance of Arab youth’s role in increasing activities, strengthening national identity, and protecting youngsters from radical and extremist ideologies.
President Sisi also stressed the importance of focusing on a number of axes, notably awareness and time investment, in addition to education and upgrading schools’ curriculums for Arab youngsters, he noted. All these notes reflected Sisi’s keenness in meeting with Arab youth and sports ministers and listening to their opinions on youth action development, said Sheikh Salman.
Meanwhile, the Council approved, in yesterday’s session, a guiding framework for a unified strategy to improve Arab youth, upon which member-countries will study, establish national policies, and form plans to implement those policies.
