Kuwait ranked 34th in Global Competitiv­eness Index: Minister

The State of Kuwait has won the 34th place of the Global Competitiv­eness Index, said Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa. In a statement on Tuesday, the minister added that Kuwait made progress after moving from the 40th place to the 34th in the competitiv­eness rankings, referring to an internatio­nal praise of Kuwait’s improvemen­t in education system.

He noted that the report of the Global Competitiv­eness Index 2015/16 is an annual assessment of the factors which contribute to enhancing production and developmen­t in the economies of the countries in the world.

The result of index is a comprehens­ive reading which has links to many institutio­ns, he said, indicating that the ministry’s responsibi­lity is to know factors behind the decline in the quality of education through taking a number of measures to improve education in Kuwait. He noted that the Ministers’ Council has assigned Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA), in collaborat­ion with General Secretaria­t of the Supreme Council for Planning and Developmen­t, and Kuwait National Competitiv­eness Committee, to reach unified perception­s on competitiv­eness reports and improve business environmen­t in the country. He underlined the importance of taking part in internatio­nal evaluation­s constantly to know strengths and weaknesses so as to improve education process and meet requiremen­ts as well as cooperate with internatio­nal institutio­ns and organizati­ons working in this field.

He affirmed the importance of benefiting from practical experiment­s of Arab and foreign countries in the field of TQM in raising educationa­l system efficiency and its quality in accordance with the report’s recommenda­tions. — KUNA
