Future Eye Theatre celebrates Eid and Onam

-

Future Eye Theatre Kuwait, an open arena for theatre people, celebrated Eid and Onam with a variety of cultural programs at KALA auditorium in Mangaf. Well-known Indian historian and writer P Hareendranath inaugurated the celebration as the chief guest by lighting the lamp. During the inaugural session, the historian spoke briefly about his newly-published book ‘India, Irulum Velichavum’ (India — Darkness and Light), pointing out certain inherent contradictions and aberrations in the history of India written by historians in colonial and post-colonial India.

Taking an objective look at the Indian history from a period of Vas Co Da Gama’s arrival in India in 1498 to the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, Hareendranath chooses to portray the British conquest, their domination of India and the eventual freedom from a totally different perspective. He seeks to spotlight some of the unwritten episodes in India’s march towards independence and bring to focus the struggles and sacrifices of many unsung heroes of the freedom struggle.

Hareendranath presented a copy of the book to Future Eye Theatre President Sajeev K Peter who presided over the meeting and delivered Eid and Onam messages. General Secretary Vattiyoorkavu Krishnakumar welcomed the gathering while Program Convenor Jithesh Nair proposed a vote of thanks.

Future Eye Theatre Vice President Shemej Kumar K K, Chandramohan Kannur, Sajeev Koshy and Dharmaraj Madapally delivered felicitation speeches. Anitha Murali anchored the program. Cultural programs got off to a colourful start with a dance performance by Kousab and Keerthana Jithesh followed by a dazzling folkloric presentation by Sudarshan and team.

Arrival of the King Mahabali (Jithesh Nair), skit by Sajeev and Deepu, dance performances by the duo Kousab and Kuldeep and songs by Shemej, Chandramohan, Aneesh, Krishnakumar, Madhu, Gopakumar and others added to the ambiance of the celebration. Two short films made by FET team members Deepak L B Nair and Govind Santha were screened on the occasion. A traditional onasadya was served to all under the supervision of General Convenor A R Subbaraman and Joint Secretary Praveen Aduthila.
