That Al Salasil hosts book signing of Faisal Al Ayyar’s ‘Money and Sand’
That Al Salasil bookstore hosted the signing ceremony of ‘Money and Sand: Kuwaiti investments between the hammer of politics and the anvil of mismanagement’, a book by the renowned Kuwaiti businessman, Mr Faisal Al Ayyar. The ceremony, held at the bookstore’s branch at The Avenues, was attended by people interested in politics and economy, as well as media personalities.
The book, published in Arabic, discusses investment, commercial and financial cases that took place in Kuwait over the past four decades.
On this occasion, Mr Faisal Al Ayyar said:
“For several decades, I observed the investments made by Kuwait both in the country and abroad, and I found that there is much that the public are not aware of. This is why I took the initiative to oversee this project, whereby a research team collected this information from different sources and put it in one book. I hope that this generation and the ones to come will learn from these cases.”
Mr Al Ayyar added:
“The book discusses a series of investment cases in Kuwait over a period of time. These include ‘K-Dow’, an example of the effect of politics on economy; the ‘fourth refinery’ and the heavy price that is incurred when projects are delayed and stalled; and ‘Kuwait Airways’, where millions were lost while other airlines in the Gulf were profiting. These are some examples that reflect just how large an impact politics can have on the investment and financial decision-making process.”
He further said:
“This research has confirmed that political and economic decision-making are intertwined, and that in many cases no one was held accountable despite the formation of investigation committees, the intervention of the prosecution and the media exposure. Having said that, readers will no doubt be proud of the many success stories and the sound strategic decisions that were taken, as well as the people who stood up for what is right regardless of the outcomes.”
‘Money and Sand: Kuwaiti investments between the hammer of politics and the anvil of mismanagement’ is a publication of That Al Salasil Publishing.
