KFSD, EQUATE continue ‘stay safe’ desert campaign
For 3rd consecutive year
KUWAIT: Kuwait Fire Safety Directorate (KFSD) and EQUATE Petrochemical Company, a global producer of petrochemicals, continued Stay Safe in the desert campaign for the third consecutive year to ensure overall safety and security of desert campers.
KFSD Director of Public Relations and Media Colonel Khalil Al-Amir said, “After the success witnessed during the past two years, we continue Stay Safe in the desert campaign with EQUATE. Figures for camping season noted a significant decrease in camping accidents when compared with previous years, which shows the positive tangible impact of this campaign when it comes to awareness about fires caused by heating sources, such as kerosene, coal and cooking oil. In addition, I urge parents to alert their children about heat sources and safe riding of motor bikes, which witness an increase in accidents during this season. Without any doubt, the safety of desert campers is a joint effort that requires community awareness about dealing with different hazards.”
EQUATE Environment, Health and Safety Leader Mohammad Al-Shamary said, “The word partnership is best expression of overall ties between KFSD and EQUATE. Together, we have applied Å’Partners in Success’ through overall collaboration in a number of initiatives, such as Firemen Day, international training courses, Safety at Every Home Campaign (Safe) and the desert safety campaign. The current campaign addresses general safety guidelines, safe locations for camping, observing safety when setting up tents and sitting or sleeping in them, the importance of having a fire extinguisher and calling 112 in case of emergency. These and other applicable recommendations to address all aspects of environment, health and safety are strategic objectives for EQUATE to ensure overall sustainability.”
The campaign’s activities were attended by a number of officials and attendees from KFSD and EQUATE who conducted visits to a number of camps. The visits included sharing advice for safe camping, handing-out safety booklets and distributing fire extinguishers.
Throughout the years, EQUATE has received local and international recognition for its role in safety fields, such as the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) CEO Award and the awards of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) in several sectors.
