Amir patronizes, attends KU graduation ceremony
His Highness granted honorary doctorate
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah yesterday patronized and attended the 2015-2016 Kuwait University (KU) student graduation ceremony. The event was attended by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem, Sheikh Jaber Al-Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Sheikh Faisal Al-Saud Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and first Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, ministers, senior state officials, high-ranking commanders of the army, police and National Guard, graduates’ families and citizens were also present at the meeting.
Achievements
Addressing the ceremony, Kuwait University President Professor Dr Hussain Ahmad Al-Ansari voiced much thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Amir for patronizing and attending the event. He said the ceremony came to celebrate the new graduates of the Kuwait University for the academic year 2015-2016, to mark the university’s golden jubilee and to grant His Highness the Amir the honorary doctorate thanks to his major national, Islamic and international accomplishments on political, economic, social and humanitarian levels.
Ansari recalled that the university was officially inaugurated on November 27, 1966, under the patronage and in the presence of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. The university was deemed a pioneering idea at the time and national dream for achieving development. The inauguration was a major launching point for educational development and a cultural shift that has paved the way for science, culture and knowledge for ambitious young generations, he added.
For half a century now, the KU has made high-profile and considerable achievements in the scientific, research and societal domains that have effectively contributed to serving and developing the society in all fields, he boasted. He highly commended the State’s total and permanent support to the country’s only national university.
Responsibility
Addressing the university’s new graduates, the president urged them to shoulder national responsibility by working hard to preserve and safeguard their dear nation and to maintain national unity. He also called on them to cherish the great values of sincerity, dedication and perseverance in order to serve the nation.
On behalf of the university’s new graduates, Dalal Faisal Al-Qimlas thanked His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince and other top state officials for attending the gala. The student vowed that she and other graduates would do their utmost to develop and serve the nation, and to promote knowledge and science in the country. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a documentary of the KU’s history was shown and then top graduates were awarded.
Jubilation
Meanwhile, Kuwait University’s professors have voiced profound jubilation and satisfaction for His Highness the Amir’s patronage of the KU 2015-2016 students’ graduation ceremony. Dr Humoud Al-Gashaan, Dean of the College of Sociology, said the university has sought for 50 years to maintain continuous development of education, noting that this ongoing process has won His Highness’ blessing and close care. Dr Suaad Abdulwahab, Dean of the College of Arts, noted the faculty’s role in student’s educational promotion.
Omar Al-Azmi, a graduate, said he was overwhelmed with happiness due to His Highness’ gracing of the graduation ceremony. His sentiments were echoed by his fellow graduate, Nafla Al-Herbesh, who said she was pleased with His Highness’ honoring. Nof Al-Slaili indicated that she viewed His Highness’ patronization as “a plaque of pride on chests of the graduates.” Abdullah Al-Shemali indicated His Highness the Amir’s sponsorship of the activity would nudge him and his peers to persevere for service of Kuwait. — KUNA
