GUST to hold its 19th Annual career fair

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) will hold its 19th Annual Career Fair on the 12th and 13th of March on its campus, which will be under the patronage of Khaled Naser Al-Roudan, Minister of Commerce & Industry and Acting Youth Minister. The event will host close to 40differen­t entities from various sectors, and aims at connecting GUST students and alumni with potential career opportunit­ies.

This year, the opening ceremony will include a panel discussion titled “Transforma­tion, Developmen­t and Career Opportunit­ies for Youth in Kuwait”, in which Al Roudan will take part as one of the panel speakers. There will be many other sessions taking place over the two-day period whose goal is to give GUST students and alumni insight, knowledge, and expert opinions on the local labor market and employment.

The businesses sponsoring this year’s event are National Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait Finance House, Gulf Bank, Al-Ahli United Bank, Zain, Ooredoo, Viva, Boubyan Bank, Alghanim Industries, Warba Bank, Commercial Bank of Kuwait, Nestle, National Investment­s Company, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre, MGRP , and the GUST Student Associatio­n. It is also worthy to note that nearly 40companie­s from a wide variety of business sectors are scheduled to participat­e in this year’s Career Fair and include: Global Investment House, Ernst & Young, YIACO, Ahli Bank of Kuwait, KOC, ITS, Mabanee, and Agility Logistics.

Corporatio­ns will have a presence for GUST students and alumni to network with and apply to for internship­s, full-time and volunteer positions on location. Potential employers will offer their services, market insights, advice, collect CVs, help students apply online for possible job opportunit­ies, and conduct on-site interviews with candidates. The Career Fair is one of the most prominent events the university organizes each year as it helps ensure a smooth transition for students into the work force after graduation. GUST continuous­ly works on improving the fair by providing a wide variety of different employers to cater to graduates’ interests and talents, as well as maintain diversity by including institutio­ns from the education, medical, real estate developmen­t, technology, public relations, media, and the industrial sector.

GUST President, Professor Donald Bates, said, “At GUST, we understand the importance of equipping our students with all the tools they need for their future, and part of that includes connecting them with the best possible group of future employers. This Career Fair is a golden opportunit­y for both students and employers alike to make meaningful connection­s and start their post-GUST lives on the right track.”

GUST is also organizing sessions and discussion­s that will focus on job market inclinatio­ns. These the title of “CMA Compliance and Anti Money Laundering”, a presentati­on by the Public Institutio­n for Social Security which aims to clarify certain legal aspects pertaining to their domain, and lastly, a presentati­on by AIESEC to emphasize the value of volunteeri­ng. These sessions will add a distinctiv­e factor to the event, and will prove beneficial to students and alumni.
