Indonesia, Kuwait cooperate mainly in humanitarian action
Indonesia and Kuwait cooperate in diverse sectors chiefly humanitarian and charitable fields, said a Kuwaiti diplomat yesterday. Nasser Al-Khaldi, First Secretary at the Kuwaiti Embassy, said Kuwait since His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah assumed the top post, in 2006, has expanded its external humanitarian activities.
He was speaking at a ceremony marking inauguration of two schools and laying corner stone of an orphanage house at the Kuwait Charitable Village-run by the Kuwaiti-Indonesian Charitable Society, which operates under umbrella of the International Islamic Charity Organization with contributions by Kuwaiti donors. The United Nations has called Kuwait a global humanitarian center and designated His Highness the Amir as leader of humanitarian action. Indonesia hosts a village for the 2004 tsunami victims, named after the late Amir Sheikh Jaber in Banda Aceh, another after the current Amir-in Western Java.
The First Secretary Al-Khaldi lauded the prime humanitarian role undertaken by the Kuwaiti-Indonesia relief association. Its chairman Ahmad Al-Holi, in a statement addressed on his behalf by the representative, Khalil AlGhaith, affirmed that the society seeks to support the Indonesian people. Saeed Mislem, director of the Kuwaiti Charitable Village in Pantene, indicated at another successful project, executed with Kuwaiti contributions; an academy that opened in 2005, accommodating 835 students.
The ceremony was attended by Sheikha Mariam Al-Sabah, spouse of the late Sheikh Ali Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah and Sheikha Aisha Mubarak Sabah Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, leading Kuwaiti waqf officials as well as philanthropists. The Kuwaiti Charitable Village is located 60 kilometers from the capital Jakarta. It is run by the Kuwaiti-Indonesian society.
