Foreign Minister hosts former UN chief
KUWAIT: Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah held talks yesterday with former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. In his encounter with the visiting former UN chief, the Kuwaiti foreign minister said that he was appreciative of his profound contributions during his stint as UN secretary general.
Meanwhile, the former UN secretary general commended His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for his efforts to ensure that peace and security around the world remain intact. The meeting brought together a number of senior Kuwaiti foreign ministry officials.
Earlier yesterday, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled met with President of the Swiss National Council Jurg Stahl and his accompanying delegation. Discussions between the two sides focused on ways to bolster ties, issues of mutual interest, as well as developments within the region and the world. Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Khaled Al-Jarrah and top staff at the Foreign Ministry attended the meeting.
Stahl and his delegation also held talks with Speaker of Kuwait’s National Assembly Marzouq Al-Ghanem. They tackled bilateral ties between both nations, especially issues of parliamentary nature, as well as the latest developments in the regional and international arenas. They also discussed means of booting cooperation and coordination between the parliaments of both countries in the international parliamentary arenas. The meeting was attended by National Assembly’s Controller MP Nayef Merdas Al-Ajmi, Head of the accompanying honorary mission MP Askar Al-Enezi, and MP Humoud Al-Khedaur. It was also attended by Kuwait Ambassador to Switzerland Bader Al-Tunaib, and National Assembly’s Secretary General Allam AlKandiri. Following the discussions, Ghanem held a lunch banquet for his Swiss counterpart and the accompanying delegation. Stahl and his delegation arrived to the country yesterday in an official two-day visit.
