JACC-KW wins ENR’s Award of Merit
NEW YORK: The Sheikh Jaber AlAhmad Cultural Centre (JACC) have won the Award of Merit from the American architectural engineering magazine (ENR) for being one of the best international projects. The announcement made during a special ceremony held in The Sheraton (Times Square) late Monday.
JACC is one of the fastest international engineering projects that have been made in terms of design and implementation. A team of engineers from the Amiri Diwan, local and international experts worked day and night for 22 consecutive months to complete this architectural building, which was finished in record time. Huge quantities of building materials were used in the construction of the project, including 21 thousand tons of iron and 52 thousand square meters of titanium to cover buildings from outside.
The center has taken the Flag Square as its podium with a total area of 214,000 square meters, while area of construction reached more than 110,000 square meters. Gardens and green escapes covering more than 120,000 square meters with four buildings, a dancing fountain and facilities to serve visitors were all put into consideration in the designing stage.
The design of the center was inspired by the distinctive beauty and creativity of the Islamic architecture. It includes large areas allows visitors to enjoy the interior of the center and its geometric design of the halls and theaters. Its location on the Arabian Gulf Road, one of the vital roads in Kuwait, has added a touristic importance to it. The Engineering News-Record (ENR) awards are dedicated to the best global projects that challenges and both designs and constructions in other countries. —KUNA
