Kuwaiti, Belgian army officials discuss cooperation
KUWAIT: Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army Lieutenant-General Mohammad Khaled Al-Khodr met yesterday with the visiting Belgian Minister of Defense and Civil Service Steven Vandeput. During the meeting, which was attended by Belgium’s army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant-General Marc Compernol, the officials discussed ways of promoting and bolstering military cooperation. They also focused on the issues of mutual concerns, the Defense Ministry’s Public Relations Department said in a statement. The meeting was also attended by the Belgian Ambassador to Kuwait, Piet Heirbaut, in addition to a number of senior officers in the Kuwaiti army.
In other news, Kuwaiti National Guard (KNG) celebrated the graduation of the Close Quarters Battle (CQB) course that was held in cooperation with the international unit for fighting terrorism in the British Army and the special operations unit 67. The celebration was held under the patronage of the Deputy Head of the National Guard Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in the presence of National Guard Secretary Lt Gen Hashim Al-Rifae. Rifae lauded the outstanding level the participants displayed, and their ability to interact with modern training systems used by advanced armies in fighting terrorism, adding that the final exercise in Failaka Island was successful and showed the efficiency of training.
Separately, Rifai stressed yesterday KNG’s interest in developing their units with latest technologies. This came in Rifai’s statement yesterday at the Fourth Edition of Gulf Defense and Aerospace Exhibition. The KNG participated with a pavilion displaying their capabilities in the fields of defense and aviation. This is part of the guard’s 2020 strategic plan to keep pace with recent technological advancement.
