Multiple injuries in two reported accidents

Ministry denies ‘inmate on hunger strike’ reports

KUWAIT: Farwaniya firemen freed people trapped in a vehicle following an accident on Sixth Ring Road near Ishbelia. A female citizen and her driver were rescued, and they suffered light injuries. Meanwhile, a truck ended up on top of a vehicle on King Fahd Road near Dhaher. The vehicle caught fire and a citizen was trapped in it. Mubarak Al-Kabeer firemen rescued him. He suffered burns on his feet and legs. The fire was put out and the vehicle was removed.

False news

The interior ministry’s relations and security informatio­n department denied reports circulated on social media and claiming that a central prison inmate had gone on a hunger strike. The department said that the ministry did not receive any complaint from any inmate at the central prison, and that the general health condition of the inmate mentioned in the allegation­s is good. As for the claim that the inmate is not receiving his medicine, it said this is a lie, as banning or dispensing medicines is not part of the prison department’s authoritie­s.

Mock drill

The civil defense carried out two mock exercises for evacuating the Children’s Hospital in Sabah medical area and at a bank, with the participat­ion of several security sectors from the interior ministry, fire department and medical emergencie­s. The exercises aim at gauging the readiness of participan­ts to deal directly with emergencie­s.

Championsh­ip

Kuwait internatio­nal and military airports organized the second championsh­ip for firemen, aiming to raise efficiency and physical fitness. Airport Fire Stations’ Acting Director Lt Col Mohammad Al-Hajiri said each of the six stations sends a team consisting of a supervisor, vehicle operator and three firemen to compete in sports activities.

Spread of drugs

Director General of the Relations and Security Informatio­n Department at the Interior Ministry Brig Adel Al-Hashash said it is important to intensify awareness efforts against the spread of drugs amongst all society groups. He said that among the most important duties is to “immunize ourselves as uniformed personnel first, because we are at the forefront of security and the force that supports the society and ensures psychologi­cal and social security and safety among the country’s citizens”.

He said Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah AlSabah has the fight against drugs as a top priority and ministry undersecre­tary Lt Gen Mahmoud Al-Dossari is following it firsthand. Hashash, who participat­ed in a campaign to fight drugs in schools, said the security establishm­ent is carrying out an active role with the internatio­nal community and all internatio­nal, regional and Arab authoritie­s to fight drugs and internatio­nal crimes through a general policy to fight drugs by limiting the supply of such poisons and reducing demand for them. It has also fully adopted the Arab strategy to fight the illegal use of drugs and psychoacti­ve substances.

He said there is coordinati­on at the highest level between all concerned security establishm­ents to fight drugs, be it the criminal security sector or the land and sea borders outlets, in addition to the customs general department, the health ministry represente­d by the drugs supervisio­n center and the addiction center and the media to bring awareness of the harm of this scourge and publish the cases and legal punishment­s for drug smuggling, trading and use to deter society members.

Immoral acts

A citizen in his 40s was taken to Hawally police station for urging an Iranian woman to commit immoral acts at a dental clinic by making indecent gestures. The citizen then waited for the woman until she left the clinic and obstructed her car until she took his number from him. The woman gave police the paper with his mobile number written on it in his handwritin­g.

Drug possession­s

Ahmadi and Farwaniya police sent three people; two citizens and an Egyptian, to the Drugs Control General Department (DCGD) for possession and use of drugs. A traffic violation led to the discovery of a herb suspected of being a drug with the Egyptian man. As for the citizens, they lost consciousn­ess near a restaurant and a KD 10 note was found full of hashish.
