Kuwait army chief extols military cooperation with Jordan
KUWAIT: Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad AlSabah received Kuwait University’s teaching staff society chief Dr Ibrahim Al-Humoud and society members at Bayan Palace yesterday. He then met with a team of Mawaheb Group executives, led by Sheikh Rakan Bader Mohammad Al-Sabah, and discussed several issues of mutual interest, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.
Meanwhile, the defense minister hosted chairman of Zakat House’s trade union Rashed Al-Azmi and union members on major issues and matters, it added. Sheikh Nasser also received the Oil Ministry’s trade union’s chairman Talal Al-Hamdan and union members, where they considered several matters, according to the release. Finally, he met with Kuwait Hotel Owners Association’s chief Ghazi Al-Nafisi and association members, where they listened to Sheikh Nasser about an international northern economic zone.
In other news, the visiting Kuwaiti Army Chief of Staff General Mohammad Al-Khodhr lauded the level of military cooperation between the State of Kuwait and Jordan. Speaking after the conclusion of the joint military committee’s meeting, Khodhr underlined the significance of promoting bilateral cooperation, saying that it is necessary to draw upon Jordan’s military expertise. The joint military committee mainly aims at consolidating military cooperation between both countries in diverse military activities and programs, including exercises and courses, he elaborated.
During the committee’s meeting, a bilateral military cooperation agreement was extended, and ways of developing cooperation and coordination for exchanging military expertise and potential were considered, he added. He noted that during his ongoing visit to Amman, he had held meetings with Jordanian army generals, mainly on the expertise of the Jordanian army’s companies in the production of military supplies and equipment. Separately, Polish Navy ship ‘Wodnik’ arrived at Shuwaikh Port yesterday with Kuwaiti, Qatari and Polish student officers on board, according to the Ministry of Defense. The visit is part of the students’ training trip in different countries, said the ministry’s Directorate of Moral Guidance and Public Relations.
Also yesterday, Chief of the Pakistani Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi visited the Sabah Al-Ahmad Naval Base where he was received by Interior Ministry’s Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Affairs Vice Admiral Mubarak Al-Omairi.
The two sides discussed issues of joint interest and boosting cooperation between the Kuwaiti and Pakistani coast guards. Admiral Abbasi, who examined the radar system room, was briefed about tactics of aborting infiltrations via the sea, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
The statement quoted Admiral Abbasi as expressing admiration at the accuracy and effectiveness of the used equipment and technologies at the naval base.
