Science base of development: Foreign minister
KUWAIT: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad AlSabah stressed the importance of science as one of the most important aspects of joint action with various countries and base of development, security and peace.
This came during Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled’s opening speech at the annual meeting of The Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA), organized by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), yesterday. Such meetings promote cooperation in the fields of scientific research and strengthen links between scientists and young researchers as they develop scientific relations between Kuwait, Arab countries and Germany, he said. This forum, which has a wide participation of research and academic institutions in Kuwait, provides the opportunity to meet with their counterparts in the Arab countries and Germany in order to support research projects and encourage education in applied sciences and humanity.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled expressed hope the forum would generate close partnerships between scientists, as he also praised KFAS’s efforts in supporting science and encouraging international cooperation in science and research.
Meanwhile, KFAS Director General Dr Adnan Shihab-Eldin, said in a speech that the forum which concludes on April 25, with participation of 48 Arab and German AGYA members and administrators, will discuss the annual reports of the AGYA activities and future projects. The academy aims to establish a community of distinguished Arab and German researchers at early age of their academic career and present some innovative projects to the academy, he said.
The strategy of the academy aims to enhance the cultural environment possible and to draw attention to youth to invest their energies as well as support research between local scientific institutions and the world’s largest specialized scientific research centers.
German Deputy Director General, International Cooperation in Education and Research Federal Ministry of Education and Research Dr Frithjof A Maennel said that their presence in the forum shows the importance of science and scientific research carried out by both parties.
The forum is a very important opportunity to identify partners in the Gulf region, especially in Kuwait, he said. The Academy has made progress and a significant contribution to the scientific science since 2013 as the academy succeeded in attracting many young researchers, he added.
