KRCS launches donation campaign for Gaza

-

KUWAIT: Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) launched yesterday a donation campaign to ease the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The recent Israeli attacks left 61 Palestinians dead and over 3,000 wounded, KRCS Chairman Dr Hilal Al-Sayer said, adding that KRCS has great experience in delivering aid to those in need everywhere. The society had already delivered medicines to hospitals in Gaza, and is currently coordinating with Palestinian humanitarian organizations to deliver food and other medical supplies needed in the strip, Sayer said. He noted that people could donate for the five-day campaign from 09:00 am to 02:00 pm and from 04:00 pm to 08:00 pm. He added that the timing in Ramadan would be from 10:00 am to 02:00 pm and from 08:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Meanwhile, KRCS and the UN World Food Program (WFP) signed yesterday a $1 million joint deal to provide necessary assistant to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Sayer said after signing the agreement that the society was keen on cooperating with international organizations such as the WFP to help those in need around the globe.

The Rohingya, who are prosecuted by the Buddhist majority in Myanmar, have sought refuge in safe areas within their country and Bangladesh, said Dr Sayer who stressed the importance of the deal, which provides food material to the WFP’s central kitchen in Bangladesh. Head of the UN World Food Program (WFP) office in the UAE and GCC Dr Abdullah Al-Wardat lauded cooperation with the KRCS, affirming that Kuwaiti teams were known for their efficient work and responsibility in carrying out humanitarian missions. The current deal reflects the strong ties between the two sides and hopefully such cooperation would continue for years to come, said the WFP official.
