KFSD Di­rec­tor Gen heads Kuwait’s del­e­ga­tion to Arab-African fo­rum

65 peo­ple res­cued from a six-storey Salmiya build­ing

KUWAIT: KFSD Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Lt Gen Khalid AlMikrad headed Kuwait’s del­e­ga­tion to the ArabAfrican fo­rum to limit the risks of dis­as­ters or­ga­nized by Tu­nisian govern­ment in co­op­er­a­tion with the UN of­fice for lim­it­ing cat­a­strophic risks from Oct 3 to 9. The fo­rum in­cluded ses­sions and work­shops on the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the Sendai Frame­work for Disas­ter Risk Re­duc­tion. Mikrad ad­dressed the fo­rum and ex­plained the work plan pre­pared by Kuwait’s na­tional li­ai­son of­fi­cer to limit disas­ter risks Lt Col Mushari Al-Faras to achieve the re­quire­ments of the Sendai Frame­work in Kuwait, and lauded the ma­jor role of Kuwait’s na­tional team made up of govern­ment and non­govern­men­tal or­ga­ni­za­tions.

65 peo­ple res­cued

Three fire cen­ters res­cued 65 peo­ple from a six­s­torey Salmiya build­ing af­ter fire broke out in a fourth-floor flat. There will be le­gal pro­ce­dures against the owner be­cause of vi­o­la­tions in the build­ing. Fire­men from Salmiya, Bi­daa and tech­ni­cal res­cue cen­ters re­sponded and dis­cov­ered res­i­dents were trapped in their flats be­cause of thick smoke, so they were res­cued. The blaze was put out without in­juries.

Bneid Al-Gar fire

Kuwait Fire Ser­vice Direc­torate’s PR Depart­ment said a fire broke out in a Bneid Al-Gar build­ing, and Shuhada, Hi­lali and tech­ni­cal res­cue teams re­sponded. The fire was on the sixth floor, so power was cut and the build­ing was evac­u­ated. Fire­men were able to reach the source of fire and kept it from spread­ing.

Tanker flips

A diesel tanker flipped over on Zour Road, in­jur­ing the driver. Zour fire cen­ter men rushed to the site, headed by Col Mishal Al-Qat­tan. The driver was freed and handed to paramedics.

Oy­oun blaze

Fire­men re­sponded to a fire in Oy­oun and put out the blaze without in­juries. Mean­while, an­other fire broke out in Ab­dul­lah Al-Mubarak. Power was cut off, the house was evac­u­ated and fire was put out. KFSD also re­ceived a call about a fire in a truck on Taa­won St near Salwa. Bi­daa fire cen­ter re­sponded and put out the fire within seven min­utes. A fuel spill was con­trolled without in­juries.

Tarkait tours PAAET

Act­ing KFSD Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Khalid Al-Tarkait toured the in­dus­trial in­sti­tute of the Pub­lic Au­thor­ity for Ap­plied Ed­u­ca­tion and Train­ing to check the pre­pared­ness of con­duct­ing ca­pa­bil­ity tests for those ap­ply­ing for the fire en­gi­neer­ing di­ploma. He said 190 peo­ple have ap­plied and must pass two tests the psy­chi­atric and sci­en­tific ex­ams.

Mu­nic­i­pal­ity com­plaints

The Mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s PR depart­ment said the num­ber of com­plaints re­ceived through the hot­line 139 of the emer­gency depart­ment was 236 dur­ing Septem­ber, in­clud­ing about pub­lic clean­li­ness. The re­port men­tioned that com­plaints in Ah­madi were 65, Hawally 48, Cap­i­tal 37, Far­waniya 35, Mubarak AlKabeer 29 and Jahra 22, all through the hot­line.
