Amir keen on encouragin­g youth pursue education: Envoy

PARIS: Kuwait’s Ambassador to France Sami Al-Sulaiman said Saturday that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was keen on encouragin­g youth pursue education to eventually serve their country. Sulaiman, addressing the first conference of the National Union of Kuwait Students (NUKS) in France, said that His Highness the Amir has always emphasized that investing in human beings was “the best investment ever” which would contribute to developmen­t, security and prosperity of Kuwait.

He said Kuwait’s 2035 developmen­t plan, based on His Highness the Amir’s vision to transform the Gulf country into a regional commercial and financial hub, was primarily based on investment­s in quality education to achieve developmen­t and advancemen­t.

Kuwait, added Sulaiman, has been encouragin­g students to apply for scholarshi­ps abroad for more than seven decades. The Ministry of Higher Education is coordinati­ng with Kuwait Embassy in Paris and the Cultural Office to create suitable environmen­t for the students in France, he said. Speaking in a statement to the press afterwards, Sulaiman said the Embassy and Cultural Office were exerting every effort to support Kuwaiti students in France. He called on the students to be dedicated during their studies so they would return to Kuwait to contribute to its developmen­t.

Kuwaiti MP Dr Abdulkaree­m AlKandari said in a similar statement that the political seminar that was held during the NUKS conference dealt with “fake certificat­es, quality of education in Kuwait and cheating.” MP Mubarak Al-Hajraf called for expanding educationa­l cooperatio­n with France in order to ultimately exchange cultural values.
