De­lays in­creased new univer­sity project’s bud­get from KD 475 mil­lion to KD 2.95 bil­lion

‘Cit­i­zens lost faith in gov­ern­ment’s se­ri­ous­ness in build­ing the new aca­demic city’

KUWAIT: A State Au­dit Bu­reau re­port about Sabah Al-Salem Univer­sity City (Kuwait Univer­sity - AlShadadiya) tracked some le­nience in de­ter­min­ing the ba­sic re­quire­ments for the cam­pus col­leges, and bad pri­mary assess­ment that re­sulted in many mod­i­fi­ca­tions and changes made in the project. The re­port also stressed that as a re­sult of the de­lays, col­lege build­ings were not launched on time, the free main­te­nance pe­riod of those build­ings ex­pired while cit­i­zens lost faith in the gov­ern­ment’s se­ri­ous­ness in build­ing the new aca­demic city. The re­port ex­plained that the de­lay also led to in­creas­ing the project’s bud­get from KD 475 mil­lion, when the project was ap­proved in 2004, to KD 1.6 bil­lion in 2010, then KD 2.95 bil­lion in 2018.

Re­mote ar­eas

Well-in­formed sources at the Civil Ser­vice Com­mis­sion (CSC) said de­ci­sion num­ber 18/2012 per­tain­ing with in­cen­tives for em­ploy­ees work­ing in re­mote ar­eas added Sabah Al-Ahmed City, Sub­biya Palace and Shuaiba in­dus­trial zone to those ar­eas, not­ing that the al­lowance will be KD 90 monthly for em­ploy­ees in ranks 1-4 and KD 75 for those in ranks 5-8.


The Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil is sched­uled to meet to­mor­row to re­view Pub­lic Works Min­is­ter Hosam Al-Roumi’s ap­proval of the pre­vi­ous meet­ing’s min­utes and a pro­posal made by mem­ber Hu­moud Al-Enezi to dis­cuss the land­mines re­cently ex­posed by heavy rain.

Charges dropped

The pub­lic pros­e­cu­tor Dherar Al-As­soussi or­dered shelv­ing a state se­cu­rity re­port made against a bedoon (state­less) young man, and which ac­cuses him of threat­en­ing to mur­der the di­rec­tor of the cen­tral ap­pa­ra­tus for il­le­gal res­i­dents Saleh Al-Fad­ha­lah. The pros­e­cu­tor or­dered that all charges against the ac­cused Mo­ham­mad Al-Enezi be dropped.

Trade­marks’ reg­is­tra­tions

Min­is­ter of Com­merce and In­dus­try Khaled AlRoud­han is­sued a min­is­te­rial de­ci­sion on pub­lish­ing var­i­ous trade­marks through the In­ter­na­tional Or­ga­ni­za­tions and For­eign Com­merce link on the min­istry’s web­site. Roud­han’s res­o­lu­tion num­ber 687/2018 fur­ther stip­u­lates pub­lish­ing trade­marks’ reg­is­tra­tion, mod­i­fi­ca­tion, change, can­cel­la­tion or re­newal at the fol­low­ing link: The link is avail­able on the min­istry’s web­site, and will be launched on De­cem­ber 16.
