-

KUWAIT: Zain, the leading digital service provider in Kuwait, announced its platinum sponsorship of Project UCON, an environmental initiative for the construction and design of Terminal 2 at Kuwait International Airport with the aim of promoting waste management and recycling. The event, held from 6 - 13 February at Shaheed Park, comes under the patronage and attendance of Board Chairman and Director General of the Environment Public Authority (EPA) Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Homoud Al-Sabah and Chief Engineer of the Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2 project Faisal Al-Ostath.

Zain’s platinum sponsorship of this initiative falls under the company’s solid Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility strategy towards the environment sector, which centers around supporting the various efforts that serve environmental causes. Zain’s social message seeks to stress on the importance of preserving natural resources and enrich environmental awareness in the community in which it operates.

Project UCON features a number of architectural offices and design firms that took part in constructing and designing the Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2 project. The firms designed and showcased various pavilions using waste materials from the project with the aim of promoting concepts of waste management and recycling. The Kuwait International Airport Terminal 2 project is considered the biggest strategic project of Kuwait’s National Development Plan and one of the biggest projects of its kind across the Middle East region, resulting in a vast amount of construction waste. Project UCON’s vision centered around promoting the importance of preserving the environment by recycling the waste of this mega project.

The event witnessed the presence of the Environment Public Authority (EPA), which Zain collaborated with in the past by supporting an awareness campaign launched by the EPA with the aim of introducing Kuwait’s new environment law. The campaign witnessed tremendous success within the Kuwaiti community, and helped raise the levels of environmental awareness. Project UCON also featured the presence of Omniya, an environment project that Zain strategically partners with to provide recycling bins for plastic bottles and plastic caps on every floor of Zain’s three main headquarters buildings. The initiative aims at encouraging Zain employees to recycle, ultimately raising awareness about the importance of preserving the environment.

Zain is keen on shouldering such initiatives that contribute to preserving Kuwait’s environment, as well as encouraging volunteering, recycling, and taking part in social activities within all age groups within the community. The company will spare no efforts to contribute to spreading positive awareness for a better environmental culture in the society.

As part of its environmental contributions, Zain is a strategic partner of the Kuwait Dive Team for over 16 years. The company dedicated a brand new boat to the team, which is utilized to carry out marine preservation projects throughout the upcoming years. The boat is fully equipped with the latest state of the art equipment, and is being used for removing wrecked ships and boats from the bottom of the ocean, removing abandoned fishing nets, installing and maintaining environment-friendly anchors, monitoring coral reefs, cleaning shores, islands, and beaches, documenting marine life, and more.
