161 shooters participate in Amir’s Shooting Grand Prix
KUWAIT: The third day of HH the Amir of Kuwait 8th International Shooting Grand Prix, being held at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex, will see three gold medals given to shooters of 10m air rifle for men and women, 50m pistol for men.
The Grand Prix will also see qualifying rounds for men and women in the 10m pistol and trap, in addition to the three position rifle for men.
Head of the shotgun referees committee Hamad AlRuwaisan said 161 shooters of both genders are participating in the shotgun events of the Grand Prix, 84 in the trap and 77 in the skeet, as the Double Trap has been scrapped internationally.
He said that an elite group of world shooters and Olympians are keen to participate in the tournament, as it became well known on the international shooting federation agenda on annual basis.
He said a large number of Kuwaiti referees are officiating the Grand Prix, 17 of whom are international, and this has been achieved through courses organized by Kuwait Shooting Sport Club, the latest of which
was last week.
Al-Ruwaisan thanked KSSC Board of Directors due to their support for Kuwaiti referees and remove all obstacles, in addition to nominations to participate in international events.
Qatar federation head of the technical committee Abdallah Al-Hammadi lauded the outstanding organization of a tournament that has a clear name HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He said competitions will be hard between shooters, because it is on the ISSF agenda.
It was clear that shooters’ preparations were high in the ladies trap event, as Omani shooter Reem AlHousani said she trained hard for the tournament as she seeks the gold medal.
She said Omani women shooters have been competing for seven years and won gold in the Arab Gulf competitions. She said she is familiar with Kuwait ranges.
Qatari shooter Khouloud Al-Khalaf said she hopes to win a medal during this Grand Prix, as per her representations. She said competitions will definitely be fierce during the second day of qualifying. Al-Khalaf said her ambition is to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
