Amir meets state officials, Chinese national developmen­t executive

Amir patronizes, attends police cadets graduation today

KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received yesterday at Bayan Palace His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah and National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem. His Highness the Amir also welcomed His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah and Kuwait’s Chief Justice Yousef AlMutawaa. His Highness the Amir’s meeting spree included encounters with First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Vice Chairman of China’s National Developmen­t and Reform Commission Ning Jizhe. Amid the talks, attended by the Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Sheikh Ali Al-Sabah and Faisal Al-Medlej, the supervisor of Kuwait’s ‘Silk City’ project, the Chinese official conveyed President Xi Jinping’s warmest greetings to His Highness the Amir, to which he reciprocat­ed the warm sentiments.

Speaker Ghanem also met with the visiting Chinese delegation, as they discussed economic relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them, Dustour news network said in a press statement. They exchanged views on several projects that will be implemente­d within the ‘New Kuwait 2035’ vision, it added. The meeting was attended by MP Mubarak Al-Harees, head of the apparatus for developing Silk City and Boubyan Island Faisal Al-Medlej, Kuwait’s Ambassador to China Samih Hayat and Chinese ambassador to Kuwait Li Minggang.

The ongoing visit of the Chinese delegation to Kuwait is part of a previous joint MoU aiming at setting out mechanisms for developing Silk City and Boubyan Island project, Medlej said. The Chinese delegation comprises 35 senior officials led by Vice Chairman of the Chinese National Developmen­t and Reform Commission Ning Jizhe, CEO of the Apparatus for Developing Silk City and Boubyan Island Medlej said in a press statement. Reflecting His Highness the Amir’s instructio­ns for turning Kuwait into an internatio­nal financial, trade and cultural hub, the project would enable Kuwait to regain its regional economic role, he added. He said he and the Chinese guests had a helicopter flight over the site to see the project on the ground.

Meanwhile, His Highness the Crown Prince received Speaker Ghanem, His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak, Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad AlSabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh. In other news, His Highness the Amir and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is set to attended and patronized today the graduation ceremony of the 45th batch of police cadets at the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy For Security Sciences.

Condolence­s

In the meantime, His Highness the Amir sent a cable to Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi on Saturday to express sincere condolence­s for the victims of the terrorist attack on a security post in North Sinai. On behalf of Kuwait, His Highness the Amir expressed strong denunciati­on of all forms of terrorism that target innocent lives and aim to destabiliz­e sisterly Egypt. He reaffirmed Kuwait’s solidarity with Egypt in all measures it might take to protect its security and stability. His Highness also voiced condolence­s to the families of the military martyrs and wishes those injured a quick recovery. His Highness the Crown Prince and His Highness the Prime Minister sent similar cables to President Sisi, while Speaker Ghanem sent a cable to Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representa­tives Ali Abdel Aal.

An official source in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that Kuwait strongly denounced the terrorist attack on a security post in North Sinai, Egypt, which left several military casualties on Saturday. Kuwait stands by sisterly Egypt and fully supports all measures it might take to protect its security and stability, said the source who expressed sincere condolence­s for the families of the martyrs and wished those injured a quick recovery. — KUNA
