Saudi Arabia commemorat­es Kuwait’s National Day

RIYADH: King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) announced Sunday hosting series of events, celebratio­ns, and activities between February 25 and March 2 to commemorat­e Kuwait’s National Day. The events and activities will shed light on Kuwaiti cultural heritage, as well as highlighti­ng various aspects of Kuwaiti art and culture, Ithra said in a press statement. In collaborat­ion with the Sheikh Jaber AlAhmad Cultural Center, Ithra will host the first-ever theatrical musical performanc­e ‘Where are you heading this evening? The 80s Show’ outside Kuwait, taking the audience back to Kuwait’s iconic television programs in the 1980s. It will also host Kuwaiti author Hmoud Al-Shayji for an exclusive book signing of his latest work (Jaleela), in which he highlights the evolution of story and novel in the Gulf region through various social, intellectu­al, and musical transforma­tions. Ithra will also organize ‘Poetry Diwaniyah,’ recital interactiv­e sessions of national and folklore poems by some of the renowned Kuwaiti poets and writers, and in participat­ion with the visitors. Other activities include Sadou workshop, in which children are taught the basics of traditiona­l wool weaving in a modern learning environmen­t, and how to make beautiful wool medallions that they can then take home as souvenirs. There will also be a pearl workshop, in which children will learn about the traditiona­l and ancient craft of pearls, and how to extract pearls, group them by size, and make necklaces from them. The events will also include a live cooking session, called ‘Al-Shaiba recipe,’ by Ismael Murad, the first disabled Chef in Kuwait and Gulf region, who will display traditiona­l Kuwaiti cuisine, in addition to food tasting and making traditiona­l Kuwaiti sweets.

Inaugurate­d officially in 2017, King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture aims to accelerate potential through encouragin­g creativity, inspiring minds, and empowering talent. Ithra is an all-purpose cultural center. It has created an environmen­t for transforma­tive experience­s to unlock the power of potential through mastery in arts, science, literature, and innovation. — KUNA
