KUWAIT: Rawaj Institute announced the launch of the ‘Young Leadership Academy’ initiative, the first of its kind in Kuwait and the Gulf region, which aims to discover and develop future leaders from among the Kuwaiti youth. The announcement was made during a joint press conference held yesterday at Seif Palace by Rawaj Institute, KAFO Project of the Amiri Diwan and the National Youth Project, in the presence of representatives of IDG, the world’s leading developer of leadership development programs.

During her opening speech, Fatemah Al-Moussawi, Project Manager of KAFO, represented by Salma AlMutairi, said: “To achieve the vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in addition of the launch of the National Youth Project under the slogan ‘Kuwait is proud’ and to enable the youth to lead the development process to achieve the future vision and developmental goals of Kuwait, we are proud to launch the ‘Young Leadership Academy’ initiative.”

Sulaiman Al-Abduljader, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Rawaj, thanked the sponsors of the initiative, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and Kuwait Airways, adding: “It is a unique initiative in collaboration with the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, which is the world’s first specialized training center for young people from around the world and IDG, a global leader in developing leadership development programs.”

He pointed out that the initiative aims to create an annual program aimed at young people aged 16 to 18 in Kuwait and qualifying those young people for leadership through a unique program. “The program is in line with Kuwait’s 2035 vision for the development of Kuwaiti human capital and coincides with the United Nations goals for sustainable development,” he said.

Anfal Al-Radwan, one of the initiators of Rawaj Institute and the official spokeswoman, explained in detail about the initiative. “The academy program consists of five educational and training courses of 17 days. The program is composed of five modules, each focused on a combination of learning and doing. Four modules will be executed

in Kuwait and the fifth module will be executed in the UK at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Rawaj Youth Leadership Academy program is dedicated only to students in Kuwait between the ages of 16 to 18 years, who believe that they are tomorrow’s leaders,” she said.

She added that 20 students from among the best performing students in secondary school in Kuwait will be selected to join this program through the application forms that they have started to receive through their website. “It is worth mentioning that the students will not bear any financial burden to participate as this initiative is sponsored by a number of private and public bodies.”

Radwan noted that the academy will start implementing its program from March till June 2019, and will be presented annually, where a number of secondary schools in Kuwait have been contacted to provide a list of the best students to select 20 candidates to participate in this program. The Rawaj Center will also undertake a number of outreach activities to invite and encourage students and their families to participate by submitting through the website www.rawajyouth.com.

Peter Turpie, Director of Middle East at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, said: “We are delighted to participate in this press conference. We have a privileged partnership that allowed the program to access the best content for the development and training of leaders because of the history of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, which extends over more than 200 years. The program will reflect the vision and slogan of the academy - ‘Serve to Lead’. The principle of service to become an effective leader will be planted in the youth involved, in view of the positive results generated by this principle in all sectors and professions through adoption and living on its basis.”
