Cabinet recalls great sacrifices of Kuwaiti people during Iraqi occupation
Govt to build a memorial for Kuwait’s liberation war in Washington
KUWAIT: The Kuwaiti Cabinet recalled the great sacrifices of Kuwaiti people and supportive stances of many countries during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait in 1990. On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, which falls on Friday August 2nd, the Cabinet recalls with bitterness this sinful crime and commends the souls of martyrs of Kuwait who sacrificed themselves to defend the dear homeland, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh a statement following the weekly meeting which was held at Seif Palace on Monday under the chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah. He stated that the Cabinet recalled with appreciation the sacrifices and sincere efforts of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the late Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as well as the steadfastness of the Kuwaiti people and their heroic sacrifices in face of the Iraqi aggression.
Saleh reiterated Kuwait’s gratitude and appreciation of the contributions of friendly countries to the international efforts to liberate Kuwait and defeat the aggressor. The ministers wished further safety and stability for Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Saleh also revealed that the Cabinet agreed on building a memorial for Kuwait liberation war in Washington in recognition of the leading role of the United States in this war.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet discussed a draft agreement for media cooperation with Jordan, a draft memorandum of understanding on strategic dialogue between Kuwait and

the US, and a draft memorandum of understanding for social affairs cooperation with Morocco. The Cabinet approved all agreement and the two memos and referred them to His Highness the Amir, Saleh said.
Several bills discussed
The ministers mulled several bills including one to amend law No. 8 of 2010 on the rights of persons with disabilities to boost their protection and increase their rights and another for amending some provisions of law No. 2 of 2016 on financial disclosure. They also deliberated a draft law on notarization and a draft law on Kuwait’s contribution to the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The Cabinet agreed on the draft laws and referred them to His Highness the Amir in preparation for their referral to the National Assembly, Saleh said.
The Cabinet reviewed a recommendation by its Public Services Committee on the project of Kuwait International Airport - Terminal 2 (T2), upon which it assigned the Ministry of Defense to collaborate with the Ministry of Public Works, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and other relevant state bodies to accelerate relocation of the Abdullah Al-Mubarak Air Base. It also took note of a recommendation by the Cabinet’s Education, Health and Youth Committee on reports of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development on the follow-up of the construction program for the city of Sabah Al-Salem University in Shadadiya for the months from January to June 2019.
International developments
The Cabinet discussed the latest regional and international developments. In this regard, it offered sincere condolences to the Tunisian people for the death of President Beji Caid Essebsi. It congratulated the newly-elected UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the new post, lauding the historic and distinguished relations between the two friendly countries and stressing the constant aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations and promote mutual cooperation in various fields.
The Cabinet expressed deep concern about Israel’s recent demolition of Palestinian homes in occupied East Jerusalem. It strongly condemned of the Israeli acts which violate international and humanitarian laws, norms and relevant UN resolutions. It warned that such acts fuel violence, threaten stability in the region and risk undermining peace process. The Kuwaiti Cabinet called upon the international community to take urgent measures to stop these provocative Israeli acts increase suffering of Palestinian people. The Cabinet expressed condemnation of the recent series of attacks in Afghanistan as well as the recent suicide bombing in Mogadishu which resulted in the death and injury of a number of innocent victims. The Cabinet reiterated Kuwait’s firm rejection of all acts of violence and terrorism in all forms, regardless of its motives. — KUNA
