NBK sponsors ‘Donate for their education’ initiative

KUWAIT: In line with National Bank of Kuwait’s commitment towards community developmen­t and its deep-rooted beliefs that education is a human basic right, NBK extended its sponsorshi­p for the fifth consecutiv­e year to Kuwait Red Crescent Society’s (KRCS) program ‘Donate for their education’ to assist children of low-income and vulnerable families. The program aims to provide education opportunit­ies to 5,000 students through covering their school tuition fees for the upcoming academic year 2019/2020. Sponsoring this program is in line with NBK’s Corporate Social Responsibi­lity (CSR) initiative­s, a cornerston­e to the bank’s strategy to promote sustainabi­lity and as part of the strategic partnershi­p between NBK and KRCS over the years.

“NBK’s sponsorshi­p of ‘Donate for their education’ program for the fifth consecutiv­e year is in line with our CSR framework guiding our efforts towards promoting the education sector. Investing in education is of the utmost importance as it is considered the solid foundation­s on which the country’s developmen­t is built on,” Isam Al-Sager, NBK CEO said. “We are committed to developing our society and we believe that education paves the way to a promising future in Kuwait,” he added.

Sager highlighte­d that NBK is keen on increasing the number of students benefiting from the campaign which successful­ly managed to cover the tuition fees for about 5,000 students last year. Such efforts contribute to social stability for families in need and also provide opportunit­ies to create an educated and knowledgea­ble generation.

“We are committed to supporting various humanitari­an and charitable initiative­s as we always strive to helping those in need as part of our responsibi­lities towards the community, in line with our aim to set the foundation­s of sustainabl­e developmen­t in line with the strategic developmen­t vision “Kuwait 2035,” Sager added.

Sager stressed that educationa­l developmen­t and youth empowermen­t are two of the

main pillars of NBK’s strategy to promote sustainabi­lity. Over the past three years, NBK has consistent­ly increased its contributi­ons and managed to successful­ly reinforce its position as a global sustainabi­lity leader, culminatin­g in its inclusion in the world’s leading FTSE4Good index.

Meanwhile, Dr Hilal Al Sayer, Chairman of KRCS said: “We are delighted to have such a strategic partnershi­p with NBK and highly value its contributi­on to this humanitari­an project, which aims at providing the necessary support to the children in need.”

“A donation campaign to support education is an excellent developmen­tal project. Through such indicative­s, we are able to provide education for children who come from families in need. That highly contribute­s to reducing illiteracy and assists in developing and preparing those children for the labor market, thus equipping them with the necessary tools to support their families and eradicate poverty, along with its negative impact on the society,” Dr Sayer added.

‘Donate for their education’ program is part of KRCS’ contributi­ons in partnershi­p with NBK which goes back to 2015. The project successful­ly covered the school tuitions for 500 students in its first year, 2,565 students in its second year, 4,275 students in the third year and 5,000 students in its fourth year. NBK maintains its leadership position as the best bank in maintainin­g CSR practices among regional banks and private sector institutio­ns.
