Uzbekistan bags 10 gold, India and Kazakhstan win two gold medals
Kuwait’s Abdelaziz Al-Sarheed takes bronze in Asian Schoolboy Boxing Championship
KUWAIT: Uzbekistan had the lion’s share of the Asian Schoolboy Boxing Championship 2019-Kuwait (ASBC), which concluded late Thursday under the patronage of Kuwait Olympic Committee President Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Winners of the 14 weights categories were awarded their medals during the closing ceremony as Kuwait was among those awarded with one bronze medal won by Abdelaziz Al-Sarheed in the 67 kg weight category.
Uzbekistan boxers won 10 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals to deservedly take first place meanwhile India was second with two gold, 5 silver and a bronze, Kazakhstan was third with two gold, one silver and 8 bronze, meanwhile Arab boxers were satisfied with bronze.
Chairman of Kuwait Boxing Federation Mohammad Mansi thanked all participating delegations, while expressing his pleasure towards the major success of the event, due to everyone’s effort.
Mansi lauded the major role of the Public Authority for Sports (PAS) and its Director General Dr Humoud Fulaiteh, and this Deputy Dr Saqer Al-Mulla and support the authority gave to bring out the event as it did. He also thanked chairman of Kuwait Sports Club Khalid AlGhanim for hosting the matches.
Mansi commended Kuwait’s boxer Al-Sarheed who won the bronze medal despite the strong competition by Asian champions. He also spoke about the role of the technical and administrative departments in preparing boxers so they present their best during the championship.
He said the championship added many things to Kuwait boxers and its boxing sport, as it laid down the infrastructure and the strategy of the local federation in preparing boxers for future competitions. Meanwhile member of the executive committees at the International and Asian Boxing Associations, and the Technical Supervisor of (ASBC) from Indonesia lauded the excellent organization of the championship and thanked Kuwait Federation for their role.
She said “the ring was of top level, and we did not receive any complaint which is something comforting, and makes our confidence in Kuwait and its Federation at its highest. She added that the future of Asia’s boxers is bright following the final matches adding “those who won are considered the base and promising for our continent.
The Indian Technical Director of the Indian team Saghar Mal Dayal said he was satisfied with what his team achieved despite the short notice. He said for 8 Indian boxers to reach the semi finals is a good number, then having six reaching the finals and winning two gold, five silver and two bronze, is something satisfactory also.
