Kuwait appreciates UN’s ‘dynamic role’
NEW YORK: His Highness the Amir’s Representative, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah arrived in New York on Saturday to head Kuwait’s delegation at the 74th United Nations General Assembly session. Receiving him at JFK International Airport was Director of His Highness the Amir’s Office Ahmad Al-Fahad, Amiri Diwan Advisor Mohammad Abulhasan, Amiri Ceremonials Director Sheikh Khaled AlAbdullah Al-Sabah, Amiri Diwan Media and Cultural Affairs Secretary Yousef Al-Roumi, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the US Sheikh Salem Abdallah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Kuwait’s Permanent UN Representative Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi, along with Kuwait embassy and mission staff.
In a press statement released upon his arrival, His Highness expressed Kuwait’s appreciation of the dynamic and effective role currently being assumed by the United Nations to tackle increasing global challenges and threats, its ongoing efforts aimed at attaining global peace and security and its close monitoring of the implementation of sustainable development goals worldwide. He hailed the efforts of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in support of the goals and principles of the UN Charter, aimed at ensuring stability, a peaceful coexistence and international cooperation.
Kuwait is committed to cooperating with the UN’s various bodies, agencies and programs on facing the various challenges and dangers that threaten the world, he added, praising these joint efforts as exceptional. He went on to urge the international community to bear its responsibility in putting a stop to conflicts and crises, witnessed in some parts of the world, and for further combined efforts to tackle fundamentalism and terrorism, the resulting dangers of which have increased in recent years and have mostly affected the Middle East. Kuwait is also keen to resume its leading role to encourage global peace and stability, support efforts for development that provides decent living conditions for people worldwide and to continue its exceptional humanitarian role in coming to the aid of nations affected by hazards, crises and poverty.
