Estonian President due in Kuwait today
KUWAIT: President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, along with her accompanying delegation, are scheduled to arrive in Kuwait today. During the visit, the Estonian President will hold official talks with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah yesterday received the credentials of Estonia’s extraordinary ambassador and representative in Kuwait Jaan Reinhold, who is based in Abu Dhabi. The reception was attended by Assistant Foreign Minister for Protocols Ambassador Dhari Al-Ajran and Assistant Foreign Minister for the Deputy Foreign Minister’s Office Ambassador Ayham Al-Omar.
Estonian President’s high-profile trip to Kuwait is a testament to a mutual desire to propel bilateral relations to greater levels, according to a Kuwaiti envoy. The visit should usher in a “watershed phase” in Kuwait’s ties with Tallinn, the Gulf state’s Ambassador to Germany and non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Estonia Najeeb Al-Bader said yesterday. With her three-day visit, where she is due to hold “extensive talks” with Kuwait’s political leaders, the Estonian president has taken up His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah on his offer, added the diplomat.
Kaljulaid will be accompanied by a massive trade delegation, who will look into opportunities for bilateral trade and investment, the Kuwaiti envoy revealed. He went on to say that current happenings in the Middle East will also be among the topics of discussion, describing Estonia’s newly acquired non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council as a sign of the international community’s “trust” in the European nation. The Kuwaiti diplomat commended Estonia on “leading the digital revolution in Europe,” saying the scarcity of natural resources did not deter the country from marching towards economic stardom.
