Kuwait, China hold 1st round of political consultations
BEIJING: The first round of political consultations kicked off yesterday between a delegations from the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry, headed by Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ali Al-Saeed with the Chinese government, said Kuwait’s Ambassador to China Sameeh Hayat. In a statement to the press, Ambassador Hayat pointed out that these consultations come within the framework of the implementation of agreements on bilateral cooperation between the two foreign ministries, especially the ones inked during the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to China in July of last year. The Kuwaiti delegation held consultations with Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong and Head of the West Asian and North African Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry Wang Di, he added.
Meanwhile, Saeed pointed out that there are great efforts by the foreign ministries in both countries to discuss all aspects of cooperation, expressing aspiration to hold another round of discussions in Kuwait next year to follow up and put signed agreements into effect, as well as see the results in a realistic and concrete manner. He stressed keenness of the Kuwaiti and Chinese sides to implement these agreements, as “we are currently reaping the results of some agreements that have been signed previously.” He affirmed the invitation of His Highness the Amir to Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit Kuwait.
In the meantime, Chen said that consultations were “fruitful” as it culminated in the visit of His Highness the Amir to China in July 2018. In addition, Di expressed his country’s aspiration to strengthen strategic and developmental relations with Kuwait to achieve common goals. He pointed to the importance of the northern economic zone (Silk City and the Kuwaiti Islands) project as one of Kuwait’s major future developmental endeavors. His Highness the Amir and Chinese President Xi witnessed in July last year seven joint agreements, including a MoU on establishing a mechanism for cooperation between the respective governments. — KUNA
