Zakat House donates KD 1 million to fight COVID-19
KUWAIT: Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Chairman of Zakat House Fahd Al-Afasi announced that Zakat House and the Awqaf Secretariat General have donated KD 1 million to support the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) efforts to contain and prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Afasi added that the donation was made in view of the significance of combining all official and private efforts in supporting MoH and various relevant state bodies in combating the spread of the virus.
Hate speech Former minister of Awqaf and Islamic affairs Nayef Al-Ajmi called for an immediate halt to abusing and insulting Egyptians. “Egyptians are our partners in building the nation and our
community. We cannot blame a community of over 500,000 for individual mistakes. Erroneous individuals should be held accountable and deported,” he said, pointing out that along with their Kuwaiti peers, Egyptian doctors and nursing staff are on the frontlines in combating the coronavirus and that such slander and negative talk undermines their spirits.
Ajmi also wondered about the media buildup of hate and repeated provocative speeches, reminding that many Kuwaiti students are still stranded in Egypt after the closure of airports. “Would we accept that they get treated in the same way?!” he exclaimed, noting that whoever promotes such speech of hate actually works against both countries.
