NBK, Refood support low-income families in Ramadan initiative

National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) and Refood continue supporting low-income families in “Ramadan Basket” initiative. This is a food solidarity initiative that is launched as part of NBK’s Annual Ramadan Program “Do Good Deeds in Ramadan”. Refood and NBK volunteers collected, sorted and stored surplus food and goods to share to the 3000 unprivileged families in Kuwait. Through this initiative, rescuing food and saving the environment go hand-in-hand.

NBK and Refood volunteers deliver the “Ramadan Basket” via refrigerated trucks to maintain the quality and safety of products. The baskets are tailored to meet long-term family’s needs and include food and non-food high quality items as well as household requirements. The main objective of this initiative is to bridge the gap between the excess food in the industry and the lack of food with in the beneficiary communities.

NBK in partnership with Refood is pleased to create such an initiative that encourages sustainable solutions and reduces food waste. This partnership involves educating the Kuwaiti public about food waste and its dangers. NBK is committed to support Kuwaiti promising projects that aims to give back to Kuwait. NBK has maintained its leadership as a pioneer in adopting initiatives for the benefit of the community. NBK is constantly seeking to further enhance its investments promoting a sustainable future.

Refood is a non-profit company that aims to reduce waste from the food sector by collecting excess and near expiry products from local suppliers and manufacturers. Refood collaborates with the industry’s largest food suppliers in Kuwait to save the largest possible quantity of products from ending up in landfills. Refood provides a Beneficiary registration service. Families that meet the eligibility requirements can register and subscribe to available Refood programs to benefit from the packages.
