Indian Embassy, Doctors Forum launch breast cancer campaign

KUWAIT: Indian Embassy, Kuwait, in collaborat­ion with Indian Doctors Forum, Kuwait launched a week-long breast cancer awareness campaign with a free medical screening camp and a moderated roundtable discussion. The free medical screening camp is being held on the embassy premises from October 21 to 27 from 3pm to 5pm.

During a function held at the embassy, Indian Ambassador Sibi George, accompanie­d by his spouse Joice Sibi and healthcare profession­als, formally inaugurate­d the breast cancer screening camp. Several female visitors who attended the function availed of the screening facility. On the sidelines, the embassy, in associatio­n with the Indian Doctors Forum and the Indian Women’s Network (IWN), Kuwait, organized an event titled ‘India: The Global Healthcare Destinatio­n.’ The event marked the celebratio­n of the historic milestone of India administer­ing one billion COVID-19 vaccine doses.

On the occasion, the ambassador emphasized India’s prowess in the healthcare domain, showcased India’s journey to scale the one billion COVID-19 vaccine landmark and shared relevant excerpts from India’s experience­s in the global fight against the pandemic.

A roundtable discussion focusing on breast cancer awareness was also held as part of the event. October is breast cancer awareness month, an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Dr

Madhu Gupta, consultant gynecologi­st, Farwaniya Hospital (chairperso­n and moderator); Dr Susovana Sujit Nair, medical oncologist, Kuwait Cancer Control Centre (KCCC); Dr Rifat Jehan, medical oncologist, KCCC, Thasneem Amir, specialist pathologis­t, KCCC; and Dr Tasneem Jasvi, senior obstetrici­an and gynecologi­st, Ministry of Health, were the panelists who led the roundtable discussion. All aspects related to breast cancer were explained in simple language by the experts with emphasis on leading a healthy lifestyle, paying attention to preventive healthcare and of undergoing periodic medical screening.
