KUWAIT: A plane carrying 40 tons of food and medical aid to Ukrainian refugees left Kuwait’s Abdullah AlMubarak Air Base to Bucharest, Romania on Tuesday, Kuwait Red Crescent Society announced. The aid came as per instructions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to help the Ukrainian people in their current humanitarian crisis, KRCS Deputy Chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi said.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti students volunteered in distributing food baskets to Syrian refugees in Jordan, in coordination with Kuwait Embassy in Amman. Kuwait Ambassador to Jordan Aziz Al-Daihani said that the participation of the Kuwaiti students in this charitable activity confirms the solidity of the humanitarian approach among all Kuwaitis. He also stressed the Kuwaiti humanitarian role, affirming the keenness of the Kuwaiti Embassy in the Kingdom to take part in the charitable activities implemented by Kuwaiti officials and civil authorities on various occasions, including the month of Ramadan. A group of students from the Jordanian University of Science and Technology participated in distributing Ramadan baskets to more than 300 Syrian families, benefiting about 1,000 people in refugee camps in the Mafraq Governorate in the north of the country, in cooperation with the Kuwaiti Nama Charity Association.

In the meantime, a Kuwait-based charity and the United Nations (UN) refugee agency UNHCR signed a deal worth $400,000 in aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan, the second such agreement between the two sides. The deal agreed between the UN’s refugee agency and the local Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri charity aims to meet the “basic needs” of these refugees, including food aid and healthcare assistance, according to the UNHCR’s representative to Kuwait Nisreen Rubaian. The more than a decade-long conflict in Syria, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, has worsened the misery of more than six million Syrian refugees across the globe, the UNHCR official emphasized. More than 2,000 Syrian refugee families residing in the Hashemite Kingdom will be the beneficiaries of the aid, the Kuwaiti charity’s chief Jamal Al-Nouri said, promising to ratchet up humanitarian endeavors that come to the aid of the impoverished. — KUNA
