Over 1,700 athletes to compete in 3rd Gulf Games
KUWAIT: The Third Gulf Games will start on Friday and will continue till May 31. Over 1,700 athletes will compete in 16 games. The organizing committee held a meeting which was chaired by State Minister for National Assembly Affairs and State Minister for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Rajihi in the presence of the Deputy Chairman of Kuwait Olympic Committee (KOC) Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad AlSabah, KOC Board Member, Chairman of Sports Committee Sheikh Mubarak Faisal Al-Nawaf, Deputy Director General of Public Authority for Sport Dr Saqer Al-Mulla and KOC Secretary Hussein Al-Musallam.
The committee discussed all final details ahead of the Games and welcomed all the participants and guests. Meanwhile, some teams and delegates have
arrived. Saudi women’s Futsal team and Oman’s Shooting teams were among the teams that arrived. Others will arrive according to the competition’s sequence in the games which will start with the women’s athletics - followed by the men’s Futsal games and Shooting competition.
Member of Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Director of Women’s Football Department Lamyaa Bin Bahayan said the Saudi women’s team is seeking for positive results, adding that the aim is to present a level that reflects the development of women’s football in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region.
Meanwhile, the General Supervisor of the Women’s National Teams Aliya Al-Rasheed said preparation for this event is according to the plans of the technical department. “It was done in three stages - starting with performance trials to select the best players for the national team. The second was the Riyadh and Jeddah stage during the month of Ramadan and finally it was the camping season in Riyadh.
Athletics team returns
Meanwhile, Kuwait Athletics National Team will
return from Turkey today, where they trained for 20 days. The delegation was headed by treasurer, Faisal Al-Dasam. Assistant Secretary and Chairman of Teams Committee Manea Al-Ajmisais said the camp achieved majority of their goals, adding that the men’s team will continue their training at Ahmad AlRashdan tracks.
Fencing targets gold
Technical Director of fencing teams Abdelkareem Al-Shamlan said Kuwait’s ambition is to win gold and search for a new leadership. He said Kuwait teams are ready for the competition. He said while the Foil and Epee are getting ready for a local training camp, the Sabre team is in a training camp in Italy during which they will participate in the world championship that will take place in Rome from May 19 to May 21.
Table Tennis training
Technical Director of Table Tennis Sabri Al-Ali said the national team will continue their training mornings and evenings at Salmiya Sports Club.
