KUWAIT: The EU Ambassador to Kuwait, Anne Koistinen, affirmed her commitment to strengthening partnerships with Kuwait to achieve both countries’ shared goals. During her speech at the Europe Day reception, Ambassador Koistinen stated that the EU stands as a close and reliable partner to contribute to the implementation of the Kuwait Vision 2035. Under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, their partnership has thrived, laying the foundation for continued success and prosperity.

“On the 9th of May, we commemorate peace and unity in Europe. This marks my first Europe Day as Ambassador of the European Union in Kuwait. I feel truly privileged to say that Kuwait and its people have been most welcoming and willing to engage to further develop our long-standing partnership,” the EU ambassador said.

She indicated that EU members have joined efforts to collaborate across a wide range of areas, undertaking impactful projects in sectors such as Just Green Transition, renewable energy, and women’s empowerment, all in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, adding, “Our joint initiatives extend to youth empowerment, academia, investment, and human rights. With the EU maintaining its position as Kuwait’s second-largest trading partner, there is considerable untapped potential for deeper collaboration.”

Ambassador Koistinen expressed satisfaction over the favorable Schengen visa regulations granted to Kuwaiti nationals by the EU, enabling multiple entries over up to five years. Despite this positive development, the ambassador reiterated a steadfast commitment to achieving a full Schengen visa waiver for Kuwaiti citizens, noting that such a goal reflects a dedication to strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating smoother travel experiences between Kuwait and EU member states, ultimately fostering closer ties and mutual understanding.

Meanwhile, the ambassador emphasized the widespread concern felt by people across Europe, Kuwait, and globally regarding the tragic situation unfolding in Gaza, noting that efforts from the EU, Kuwait, and similar allies are actively aimed at easing the severe humanitarian crisis gripping the region. She added, “We in the EU strongly believe in the need to give hope to the Palestinian people.

Therefore, we continue to support UNRWA and remain firmly committed to the two-state solution. We should not also forget the suffering of other vulnerable people in the region and beyond.” “As for Europe itself, war is still raging on our doorstep, with Ukraine courageously defending itself from the fullscale Russian illegal aggression. We will continue with our humanitarian, military, and financial support for Ukraine,” the EU ambassador concluded.
