LMT tests new download frequency for introduction of 5G
Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) in cooperation with Elektroniskie sakari (VASES), started tests within 1,500 MHz (1 452 – 1 492 MHz) range for the first time in Latvia on Thursday, 1 February.
The company reports that this new frequency may become one of the standards for 5G network. Tests will check the spread of radio waves and stress the new Supplementary Downlink technology. This frequency range was picked for specifically for data transmission, and because it can be accessed by all modern mobile devices, LMT representatives say.
LMT Vice-President for technology matters Gunārs Danbergs comments: «New frequencies, picked for data download, will allow us to test services in 5G network and improve customers’ experience with existing services that require high speed and capacity. Demand for LMT smart television continues to increase. With new frequencies, we will be able to provide our customers more high quality television services.»
Representatives of LMT are satisfied with the progress made towards 5G introduction last year – a next-generation mobile internet network was formed and the first ever 5G stations were established in Latvia.
LMT also established new data transmission speed records in preparation for 5G, including 930 Mbps mobile internet speed in LMT’s existing network, as well as wireless data radio connection with a speed of 10 Gbps, the company adds
