Ši­au­liai has plans for a joint dis­count and ser­vice sys­tem with Jel­gava

Ši­au­liai mu­nic­i­pal­ity plans to adopt a joint dis­count and ser­vice sys­tem with Jel­gava.

Ši­au­liai project man­age­ment of­fice chief Ieva Džaugiene told Lithua­nian news agency BNS that a pub­lic pro­cure­ment pro­ce­dure has com­menced for con­cep­tual de­vel­op­ment of such a sys­tem. Ac­cord­ing to Džaugiene, it will likely be in the form of a map or mo­bile app that will al­low users use dis­counts and elec­tronic ser­vices for res­i­dents of both cities.

The project is planned to be re­al­ized us­ing mu­nic­i­pal and EU funds. It is planned the cre­ation of the data­base and four-year-long main­te­nance costs will reach EUR 200,000. Con­cept de­vel­op­ment will cost an­other EUR 45,000.

It is ex­pected the new sys­tem be­comes ac­ces­si­ble in Jel­gava and Ši­au­liai in au­tumn 2019.

The dis­tance be­tween Jel­gava to Ši­au­liai is ap­prox­i­mately 85 km. The two are sis­ter cities since 1960.
