LMT plans to invest millions in network, service and research development
In 2019, mobile network operator Latvijas mobilais telefons plans to invest a dozen million euros into network, service and research work development, as confirmed by LMT president Juris Binde.
He says big money should be invested appropriately. ‘Even if we take a very large amount of money, would not be able to build our network faster than physically possible,’ says Binde.
LMT concluded 2017 with turnover of EUR 163.664 million and profits of EUR 30.674 million. Binde notes that he expects reasonable growth this year. «Turnover mainly increases thanks to usability of our services and data. We have more clients and more connected devices,» says Binde.
He adds that among our clients are private persons and technological institutions. ‘Our SIM cards are used in nearly 300,000 types of equipment. They are clients for us even though they may be a bit odd. This is a development direction for us,’ stresses Binde. He adds that as smart technologies, transport organizing systems and connected vehicles continue developing, the number of clients will keep growing.
As for smart city technology, Binde mentioned that LMT has several upgrades planned for Riga.
«Several intersections are fitted with cameras and other elements to help organize traffic. Talks have been commenced with Liepaja regarding organization of traffic and use of smart technologies in tramway traffic. There are projects in consideration. It may require us several years to reach realization, but if we don’t do it new, someone else will do it instead,» admits Binde.
