Tens of thou­sands sing to mark Es­to­nia's restora­tion of in­de­pen­dence

52,772 peo­ple have joined a singing event to mark the an­niver­sary of the restora­tion of Es­to­nian in­de­pen­dence, with the ma­jor­ity of the singers singing along on the internet.

Es­to­nian pub­lic broad­caster ERR re­ports on Mon­day, Au­gust 20, that at the Tallinn Song Fes­ti­val grounds on Sun­day, Au­gust 19, a con­cert «The Power of Song» («Laulu võim») was held, where singing for a con­sec­u­tive 100 min­utes to mark the 100th an­niver­sary of the Repub­lic of Es­to­nia took place. Every­one in­ter­ested, who has ac­cess to the internet, was in­vited to register for singing along.

A web­site pro­vided lyrics for each song and at­tracted 21,211 on­line singers in Harju County, 7,380 singers – in Tartu County, 3,045 – in Pärnu County and 4,498 oth­ers from abroad.
